Welcome to K&C North Hampshire Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue. (K&C Rescue)
If you're looking to hand in your Rabbit(s) or Guinea Pigs please be aware there may be a waiting list. To hand in Rabbits they must ideally be up to date with their Vaccinations please. If due within a few months of them coming into rescue your vet can do their boosters early.
If you're looking to adopt please read the section below on how adoption works. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or need help/advice before deciding to adopt. [email protected]
Sadly the rescue is finding so many Rabbits being handed back into rescue. This is due to getting a new puppy, Kids bored, moving house and just not having time for them. Whilst i appreciate peoples honesty this is becoming really upsetting. The time I put into caring for the Rabbits in my care and sorting their adoptions feels a total waste, but most importantly these Rabbits have already been rehomed to me, sometimes they have had numerous homes before coming to me. The stress they get put under with all the changes, not to mention the possible neglect they may have previously suffered is heartbreaking. Please seriously think before you even enquire. Rabbits should never be adopted for Children so no excuse for children to get bored. Getting a new puppy should never be an excuse to rehome or hand back your adopted rabbits, Train your puppy (Aug 2022 we have a new puppy and im managing fine running the rescue) Time, What time do you need? You have a bonded pair they have each other. You need time to feed and water them daily and empty their litter tray. Everyone can find time in the week to check them over and groom them. I run a rescue, work and have my own pets... I manage.. Moving house, Unless your in rented and your new landlord has said no, I always believe there is a way to make it work. You can give them the most space you can and again a bonded pair will be happy. Consider having them as house rabbits, Add a run to their setup, a run can wrap around a setup it doesnt have to be a straight length.
Adopting should always been thought about in depth, its very hard for a rescue to keep having take back Rabbits adopted from them. Space lately is hard to come by and everytime we take back a rabbit it is then using space that was probably offered to a neglected Rabbit in desperate need.
If you are looking to adopt please read the following.
1/ You must ideally have a setup ready, you wont be able to meet any of the Rabbits/Guinea Pigs unless you have passed the homecheck.
2/ If you already own Rabbits you must have proof of their vaccination status please, they must of been vaccinated a min 3 weeks before you can meet any of the Rabbits in rescue. (Your Rabbits must also be neutered please)
3/ Please do not enquire to adopt if you have a holiday booked. If you do want to adopt before your holiday you would be required to pay the adoption fee then a boarding fee, for the Rescue to hold onto the Rabbit(s)/Guinea pigs.
4/ Its fine if you have other pets and young children, but to adopt the Rabbit(s)/Guinea Pigs must be for you the parent to be responsible for, you must have a safe and secure setup, so your pets can not get to them or cause them un needed stress. Same with young children please, they must always be supervised around them. Sadly so many accidents happen with children handling or opening cages/hutches without a parent around.
5/ Please do research the correct diet and accommodation needed, if you do need help please do ask. Sadly so many people spend so much money and fail homecheck as the hutch/cage is not suitable. The same with diet, please only buy pellet/nugget hard feed and make sure any treats you buy are suitable.
